Anita Silvey's Children's Book-A-Day Almanac was an excellent write-up of Stuart Little trivia including how Anne Caroll "Boss of Books" Moore, hardcore New York Public librarian and last word in what was proper children's literature, had a serious beef with a lady birthing a mouse.
Pretty sure Moore's life mission was to go back in time and beat up Mary Toft.
Whatever Moore might have thought or extrapolated about in a fourteen page letter, E.B White's sensitive, natural books have withstood the test of time and will continue to enchant children and adult readers for years to come.
